Sight on Site, Monica Ross & Allowed Voices
The Gallery's 2012 programme kicks off on 12 January with Sight on Site, curated by York St John Fine Art students. On 20 January at 6pm Monica Ross performs Act 39 of Anniversary: an Act of Memory, which launches the Allowed Voices exhibition. Free entry: all welcome, gates open 5.30pm.

Monica Ross: Anniversary - Acts of Memory
We are proud to announce that acclaimed artist Monica Ross will perform in the Gallery gardens on 20 Jan 2012 at 6pm. This performance will be Act 39 of Anniversary – an act of memory: solo, collective and multi-lingual recitations from memory of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by Monica Ross and Co-Recitors. Doors open 5.30pm - free entry.
Monica Ross will deliver an artist's talk in the gallery on Saturday 21 Jan at 2pm - free entry.
Anniversary – an act of memory UK Tour 2011–2013 is funded by Arts Council England.

Sight on Site is an exhibition by a group of emerging artists, created and curated by third year Fine Art students from York St John University. It showcases a diverse range of contemporary fine art practice, incorporating painting, installation and net.art. There is no theme, simply 23 forms of individual artistic expression.

Multi-media installation to coincide with Illuminating York
H&G: A New Perspective. If you go down to the woods tonight… A spectacular site-specific installation featuring film, photography, audio and sculpture based loosely around the Hansel and Gretel story. Featuring a specially commissioned short film by Palourdes Productions. Open as an Illuminating York Fringe Event 26-29 Oct 6-9pm (free entry); between 26-29 Oct the gallery will be open 12-3pm running creative sessions for young people (up to 12 years), exploring fairy tales, witches and getting lost in the woods... Artist in Residence working in ceramics and mixed media
Joseph Hartley, talented undergraduate at Manchester Metropolitan University, was awarded a fortnight's Artist in Residency by the judges of this year's 53 Degrees North. Joe will be developing his practice in ceramics and other media, holding open studios, delivering talks and workshops. 'My work is usually non-material specific but ceramics features often as it is something I have been immersed in from an early age'. He will be keeping a daily journal on the 53 Degrees blog.

New work by David Hancock, Andrea Walsh, Jenny Pope and Hannah James
An exhibition exploring themes of personal space, security, concealment and the protection of treasured objects in our lives. Featuring paintings by David Hancock, including the Peter Pan studies from his recent residency at York Theatre Royal; exquisite faceted boxes by Andrea Walsh in glass and porcelain; talismanic objects by Jenny Pope; and clusters of porcelain vessels by ceramicist Hannah James. Also includes new jewels by Disa Allsopp.
