Anke Hennig

Jewellery, Dresden

Anke Hennig studied Textile Design and Jewellery Design at the Burg Giebichenstein Hochschule für Kunst & Design in Halle, Germany. She uses traditional braiding techniques to create highly contemporary jewellery. She works with fine threads of coloured nylon, cotton, silk and other filaments, winding flat braids around and over themselves to form spirals. ‘The lightness and malleability of the materials are particularly important to me. I am particularly interested in using old techniques [such as braiding and filigree work] and exploring their value for contemporary interpretation.’
