Annie Turner
Ceramics, London
Annie Turner was born in 1958 and trained at the Royal College of Art. She has exhibited throughout Europe and at SOFA New York and SOFA Chicago. In 2007 she had a major solo exhibition at the RBSA gallery in Birmingham, and this year she has shown at Galerie Besson in London and the Goldmark Gallery in Rutland, as well as at Collect at the Saatchi Gallery. Her work is held in private and public collections.
Annie’s ceramic sculptures are inspired by her childhood memories of the river Deben in Suffolk. They are ‘objects that trigger the memory’, as she puts it – imprinted with the river’s past and present, the cycles of nature and the interaction of man. These encrusted forms – laboriously constructed from rolled clay – reveal the particular texture and weather of this waterland and the character of its beds and inlets.
